Jennifer Lopez has been chosen to be a judge on American Idol in its upcoming season.  Randy Jackson and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler have already made it official this past September 22nd. It took long for American Idol producers to make a final decision on whether Lopez could join the team, but according to UsMagazine, they have ‘a good agreement’.

Lopez replaces the talented-yet-annoying Kara DioGuardi, who challenged ‘Bikini girl’ on the show by egotistically performing and revealing a bikini underneath her clothes during one of the show seasons. She also had an altercation with guest-judge Katy Perry on National television during auditions for the past season, as Perry mostly did not agree with DioGuardi’s comments on the constestants, resulting in DioGuardi mocking Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl’ after several shady remarks. This was mostly ignored by Perry before she asked ‘Please, stop’ and threatened throwing ‘her Coke’ at DioGuardi’s face.

Ellen Degeneres, originally selected to replace DioGuardi, left the show on her own terms. Ryan Seacrest still remains the host of the show. Randy Jackson is the only original judge left on the panel, since Simon Cowell has devoted his whole to the American version of The X-Factor.

The fact American Idol has lost is shimmer and is going downhill is crystal clear. With The X-Factor coming to American shores, there is really no place for two talent shows airing, since they assess the very same thing. One will just have to wait and see which one will the audiences prefer.

Lopez is scheduled to release her newly revamped studio album Love? under Def Jam Records later on in the year, preceded by a viral video/promotional single, ‘Take Care’, before an official single is released. Having a judge position in the show, might boost Lopez dusted pop career and might as well serve as an strategy to market her as the successful pop artist she used to be.
