Katy Perry tops the Billboard Charts as expected, with a first week sales of 192,000. It seems the first day of release predictions were not that far off. This marks Perry’s first album topper just at her sophomore release, relying on two successful singles.

Despite the underwhelming first week opening, considering the hype of the album and Perry’s new promotional strategies (which are far superior to that handled with her first record One of the Boys), this amount is a big improvement as her first album debuted at #9 two years ago with only 47,000 copies sold, even with her first single ‘I Kissed a Girl’ hitting #1 and receiving constant airplay.

It is not a colossal debut, but the album sales should be keeping strong with Perry’s subsequent singles, Christmas season coming around the corner, upcoming promotional appearances, and her forthcoming tour next year in the spring.

With Teenage Dream atop the albums charts, the title track currently sits at #2 in the Billboard 100 charts, as ‘California Gurls’ still lingers in the Top 10 at #7, after several months of release and multi-platinum certifications. Hopefully ‘Teenage Dream’ will become Perry’s third #1, as Eminem’s ‘Love the Way You Lie’ wraps its several week runs in the number one spot.
